The Natural Gait can be your gateway into an entire new world of discovery about you and your relationship with your horse, your dog or another human being. Our purpose is to enhance your awareness by providing opportunities to find and explore your own “natural gait.” Sometimes our search for knowledge is so needy that all that is available to us blinds us. We are unsure where or what will enable us to grow and become a better person, horseman, or dog owner. Sometimes it’s just because we don’t have enough experience to choose teachers or mentors who will benefit us the most. Most of you will agree that it is a necessary process to experience something bad before you can recognize something good and vice versa.
Our experiences at The Natural Gait have led us down a path where we’re no longer afraid to assert our intuitions of what feels right in our hearts. How many of us have had a teacher or instructor who is not a master of his trade but you felt he really cared for and supported you? On the other hand, how many of us have had the experience of being in the presence of an extremely talented teacher who knew and could do so many things well, but could really care less about us. From which do we gain the most? I think most of us would gain the most from the instructor who cared about us. Now if we consider that we’re all connected spiritually, then this seems to explain some of this phenomenon. Does your horse get the most from the talented, non-caring owner or the owner that looks into his heart and gives of himself even though he may have little to offer in the way of technique or riding skills. Do you think your horse or dog really cares about how much you know? I don’t think so.
We have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. In our search for this knowledge, we have scheduled clinics and events that would increase our awareness and skill levels. Year after year we have all grown in our horsemanship. There are times when we look back and see just how little we knew and we become regretful for what we put our horses and ourselves through. We cannot change the past, but thank God horses are so forgiving. If we could only be half as forgiving of others and ourselves, we would be much better people. Alas, we have learned from our mistakes, and our horses were our best teachers. Soon we learn that labeling experiences as mistakes only creates more problems. Mistakes are just experiences from which we learn. Therefore, the person who makes the most “mistakes” learns the most. Right? When our self-imposed judgments of good and bad are used constantly, we have a hard time just experiencing the moment and keeping our minds fresh and uncluttered.
Many of us are on a road of self-discovery and we are trying to better our relationships with our horses, people, and other animals. We can attribute much of our growth to the animals. They are the best teachers because there is no judgment involved. Let your heart be your eyes and ears, and know with confidence that your course will lead you home no matter what you encounter along the way because your heart is connected to your spirit and all others’ spirits.
We hope The Natural Gait has served you well as your vessel into the realm of the natural world and your learning experience has been real. We are with you to delve further into this fun journey of life. May we make this voyage together? Won't you join us?
