We can even offer catered meals during your
stay with us.

Wintertime
getaways at THE NATURAL GAIT and THE ION INN in scenic rural northeast Iowa are every bit as wonderful
as a springtime stay. It's just a little cooler!

Ion Inn

Ion Inn

Book some Cabin time now for great cross-country skiing, sledding or tobogganing or just build a snowman with the family. Come back inside the cabin and gather "round the wood stove and enjoy a warmth well beyond that provided by the fire alone.

Pets Are Welcome with the exception
of The Ion Inn and The Mule-Tel.

Horse Stalls are $15.00/night/horse includes one bag of shavings. If you would like to have more shavings for your horse, you are welcome to bring it with you or you can purchase it from us at $5.00/bag. You are responsible for your horses own care and comfort during your visit. Muck buckets, forks, hoses and water are all provided near your stall.  Please bring your own water buckets, hay and feed for your horse and leave your stall as you would like to find it for your horse. Our stalls are safe sturdy 12x12 HiQual stalls, and 10x10 uncovered stalls that are located on the hill by the campsites and cabins. The covered stalls do not touch one another so your horse will not be bothered by unfamiliar neighboring horses. You will soon find your horse quietly munching hay while you wonder who enjoys the miles of scenic view more, you or your horse? There are more indoor stalls in the barn and in the back of the arena. Stalls are filled as reservations are taken on a first come basis

Does my horse need shoes?

If your horse can comfortably walk down a gravel road, he/she will probably do fine here. If he is uncomfortable on a gravel road and you plan to ride multiple days on a row, you might find shoes beneficial. Some of our hills and river crossings are rocky so please give your horse plenty of rein and time to pick his way safely.

Looking for the perfect environment for your next functions. We have it.

The LodgeThe Natural Gait Lodge is a great place for meetings, informal get-togethers and parties. We have a commercial kitchen. We can provide optional catered meals
or concessions for your event. The
dining room comfortably seats 40,
but we can accommodate larger reservations in the arena. The lodge
is air-conditioned for those steamy days
of summer and heated by a wood stove
for winter-time get togethers.

It's comfortable anytime of year!

Above the lodge are our 6 private rooms.
These rooms do utilize a shared bed and breakfast style bathroom and they are just
a few feet away from our shower house facility.
Comfortable, quiet and restful.
The six rooms we offer above our lodge
are just perfect for a one-night stay
or a whole week. You're close to everything (especially the dining room if we're offering meals throughout your event) and yet they still retain that air of remoteness that makes The Natural Gait such a great place to stay.
The shower house features private showers, fully appointed restrooms
and a washer and dryer. It is always
very comfortable and cleaned daily by
our staff. You'll hardly even know
you're away from home!

The Natural Gait Cover All Building

The Cover All building at The Natural Gait houses many events. Everything
from horse clinics to wedding receptions.

It is the perfect environment, naturally light and airy and we have both balcony viewing and bleachers on the main level. We also offer large viewing windows in the eating area. We invite you to call us about your next event and holding it at
The Natural Gait.

There is also a large outdoor arena that is used for various clinics and events when the weather is nice. The Natural Gait is the perfect place to hold your next show, give us a call and set up your next event at The Natural Gait!

What are the trails like?                  Our part of N.E. Iowa is a beautiful section of country that I have always felt “fell onto the wrong side of the creek”! It should be part of northern Wisconsin with its hills, rivers, wildlife etc. Tastefully nestled on the end of a long curvy dead end road is “The Natural Gait” owned by Howard and Donna Bright. They also own “The Ion Exchange” a native grass and wildflower seed business. So just when you think that the trails couldn’t be any prettier, you take a bend in the trail and ride along 100s of acres of native plants in all their glory. I could go on and on here about the gorgeous fall colors, the wonderful people, etc. but I invite you to check out more of our website. Read the article written by Western Horseman Magazine and see what they have to say, then check out the testimonies of our guests and their impressions then give  a call.
